Hyundai Genesis (DH): Parking Brake System / Electric Parking Brake (EPB) Description and Operation
The EPB is an electronic parking brake.
The EPB is different from existing parking systems which are
operated with the brake pedal or the lever type. The EPB system sends
the signal to the ECU when a driver operates the EPB switch. The ECU
operates the EPB actuator composed of motor and gears. The braking power
is generated when the motor pulls the cable connected to the brake
system.
The EPB module is one of the parts of EPB system. It monitors
the signal of the various sensors in the system, executes a self
diagnosis, and controls EPB system with programmed logic.
Main Function
| 1. |
Static Braking Mode
It controls the operation and cancellation condition of the vehicle when the vehicle stops.
| (1) |
The operation condition: Pull the EPB switch regardless of
ignition switch ON / OFF & the brake pedal pressed condition.
(Pull).
| A. |
The Vehicle speed <= 6kph |
|
| (2) |
The cancellation condition: Push the EPB switch with the ignition switch ON and under the brake pedal pressed condition (Push). |
|
| 2. |
Dynamic Braking Function
DBF (Dynamic Braking Function): The DBF is the braking
function which can operate or cancel the EPB system while driving. This
function is used when foreign materials get in between the brake pedal
or the brake hydraulic line cannot be operated.
| (1) |
The operation condition
It operates only when the vehicle speed is faster than 6kph and the EPB switch is pushed. |
| (2) |
The cancellation condition: The system is cancelled by not pulling the EPB switch. |
| (3) |
Principle of Operation
| A. |
ESC system is normal condition: EPB requests applying pressure of brake to ESP system. |
| B. |
ESC system is abnormal condition: EPB operates the parking brake for reduction of speed. |
|
| (4) |
Special feature
If the anti-lock is operated, the anti-lock control is
performed, and the parking lamp on the cluster keeps blinking in case of
emergency braking. |

Other information:
Inspection
1.
Turn the ignition switch ON.
2.
Connect the GDS.
3.
Emit intensive light toward the photo sensor using a lamp, and check the output voltage change.
4.
The voltage will rise with higher intensive light and fall with lower intensive light.
Inspection
1.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2.
Disconnect the temperature control actuator connector.
3.
Verify that the temperature control actuator operates to the
warm (Driver's side) or cool (Passenger's side) position when connecting
12V to terminal 3 and grounding terminal 4.
