Hyundai Genesis (DH): Front Suspension System / Front Strut Assembly Repair procedures

Removal
1.
Loosen the wheel nuts slightly. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
2.
Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub.

Tightening torque:
88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

   
Be careful not to damage the hub bolts when removing the front wheel and tire.
3.
Using a hex wrench, fix the end of stabilizer link and then loosen the nut(A).

Tightening torque:
98.1 ~ 117.7 N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0 kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8 lb-ft)

[ECS]

[HPD]

4.
Loosen the bolt & nut (A), separate the front shock absorber assembly from the lower arm.

Tightening torque:
137.3 ~ 156.9N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7lb-ft)

[4WD]

[2WD]

5.
Disconnect the connector and loosen the wheel speed sensor bracket bolt to remove it. [ECS]

Tightening torque:
8.8 ~ 13.7N.m (0.9 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 ~ 10.1lb-ft)

6.
Loosen the wheel speed sensor bracket bolt to remove it. [HPD]

Tightening torque:
6.9 ~ 10.8 N.m (0.7 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 ~ 8.0 lb-ft)

7.
Remove the split pin & castle nut.

Tightening torque:
78.5 ~ 88.3N.m (8.0 ~ 9.0kgf.m, 57.9 ~ 65.1 lb-ft)

8.
Disconnect the front upper arm from the knuckle using a SST (09568-2J100).

9.
Disconnect the front strut assembly from the frame by loosening the mounting bolt (A).

Tightening torque:
53.9 ~ 63.7N.m (5.5 ~ 6.5kgf.m, 39.8 ~ 47.0lb-ft)

10.
Loosen the nuts and remove the bracket (B) from the strut assembly (A).

Tightening torque:
19.6 ~ 29.4N.m (2.0 ~ 3.0kgf.m, 14.5 ~ 21.7lb-ft)

11.
Install in the reverse order of removal.
12.
Check the alignment.
(Refer to Tires/Wheels - "Alignment")
   
A.
When moving the rear damper assembly, do not clutch the sole valve or cable.
B.
Be careful not to damage the ECS damper assembly connector made of fragile plastic.
C.
The damaged ECS damper cable may cause malfunction in the system. Be careful not to damage the ECS damper cable with sharp materials
Disassembly
1.
Compress the coil spring with a strut spring compressor. Do not compress the spring excessively.
2.
Remove the lock nut (B) after removing the cover (A).

Tightening torque:
24.5 ~ 29.4N.m (2.5 ~ 3.0kgf.m, 14.5 ~ 18.1 lb-ft)

3.
Gradually turn the bolt on the spring compressor to slowly release the tension from the spring. Then, disconnect the components.
4.
Reassembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
   

    Components [2WD] 1. Insulator cap2. Insulator assembly3. Spring upper pad4. Dust cover 5. Bump stopper6. Coil spring7. Spring lower pad8. Shock absorber [4WD] 1.

    Removal 1. Remove the front wheel and tire (A) from the front hub . Tightening torque: 88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

    Removal 1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal. 2. Remove the front bumper. (Refer to Body - "Front Bumper Cover") 3. Disconnect the front fog lamp connector (A). 4. Remove the front fog lamp assembly (A) after loosening the mounting nut.
